AEROPRESS GUIDE

friedrichs-aeropress

The AeroPress is a device for brewing coffee. It was invented in 2005 by Aerobie president Alan Adler. The AeroPress shares some characteristics with a French press. Differences include:

  • Uses a disposable paper filter which removes most of the coffee solids (a French press uses a coarser wire or nylon mesh filter). However, several third-party reusable metal filters are available.
  • Shorter brewing time, which leads to less acidic coffee
  • Uses air pressure to extract flavor.
  • Uses a fine grind (slightly finer grind than drip, but coarser than espresso machines use), versus the coarse grind recommended for French presses

STEP 1

Take your Friedrich’s coffee and use either a rounded AeroPress spoonful (provided) or measure out around 17g. Grind until the consistency is similar to table salt.

STEP 2

Remove the basket on the bottom and add filter. Then, go ahead and rinse the filter and basket with hot water to remove any paper filter taste. Go ahead and warm up the Aeropress as well.

STEP 3

Place the Aeropress on your coffee mug and add the coffee grounds using the funnel that came with it when you bought it. Pour water just off the boil and fill to the number 4 on the side. Make sure that all of the coffee is saturated and stir your mixture.

STEP 4

After waiting around 1 minute go ahead and give your mixture another stir. Then place the plunger and slowly press down until the entire mixture has passed through the filter. Now, you are ready to enjoy your coffee!
